A Fun Place to Get Your House Fix

Thanks for Your Patience, Dear Readers!

I just want to thank all of you for hanging in with me through this brutal Wordpress upgrade. For those of you who don’t know, or haven’t noticed, Wordpress changed a bunch of things around on us at the beginning of April, and my poor blog went a little berserk.

I went for several days without being able to upload photos at all. And then I discovered that at least 50% of my published posts had been totally scrambled, so the words were no longer connected with the photos. The pictures were frequently bunched at the bottom of the posts, and the captions were left hanging in thin air. When I tried to cut and paste them back into place, they stubbornly bounced back the minute I published them again. Very bizarre blog behavior!

Thank you to those readers who spotted some of these issues and alerted me. I have well over 100 posts published at this point, so it was hard for me to figure out which ones needed the most work. I have been slowly rebuilding them over the past two weeks (some were completely deleted and re-written from scratch–lots of late nights here!).

Hopefully I finally have most of them functioning normally again. However, please notify me if you see anything else out of the ordinary. I could swear some of the posts I already fixed are playing games with me and shuffling photos around in the middle of the night again (aaargh).

This comes at a terrible time for Hooked on Houses, I have to say, because we have picked up so many new readers recently who have been reading those older posts (and probably wondering why everything is so weird).

Hooked on Houses was reviewed in The Guardian (a major newspaper in the U.K.) a few days ago, and the blog has gotten over a thousand more hits a day since. To my new readers, let me assure you that things aren’t usually such a mess around here. Please don’t let my wonky posts scare you off for good.

Thanks, everybody! I appreciate your patience and forebearance with me as I sort things out. -Julia

Yeah, I had some issues with WordPress as well. Almost lost a draft I’d been woking on for two days because it wouldn’t save. I messed with it for an hour. Sure as heck, 2 minutes after I posted about the problem in the help forum, the problem corrected itself.

    Damn gremlins……………………………..

Where have I been? I haven’t noticed a thing. I guess that’s why I never proof read my kids homework ;)

It all stayed in place for me too, so maybe your troubles weren’t too widespread. Many congratulations on The Guardian review. Quite a coup, and well deserved.

WOW! You are famous now? I never noticed any issues with wordpress… I guess because I haven’t re-read the old blog posts? Everything looks as great as always on my end.

I noticed too that I had at least one post missing its images. I’m with wordpress too. But I haven’t gone back through and checked everything other than fixing that one post. That is so frustrating when things go awry after you work so hard to set them up right! And I have over 200 posts so I don’t want to re-do!

Wow, that is unusual to get thousands of hits a day from any one site’s mention. That must be some newspaper! Congrats!
